Abstract

|
Dysmyelopoietic syndrome was classified as an individual disease entity recently. It is characterized by variable cytopenia in peripheral blood and hyper-or normocellutarity in bone marrow smears due to bone marrow stem cell dysfunction. It’s differentiation from acute myeloid leukemia is clinically important both for the diagnosis and management.
Of the 2 cases of refractory anemia with excess of blasts, one case was transformed into acute myeloblastic leukemia after 5 months of follow up. He refused further treatment. Another 33-year old male patient was diagnosed as acquired idioopathic sideroblastic anemia. Despite 6 months of high dose pyridoxine therapy, he is still dependent on inter mittent transfusions.
